I'm gonna go on record as saying that as an airsoft player who was once a paintball player. There are many elements of tactics and strategy that can be carried over, but not necessarily all elements. More to the point we might be able to make the case easier that Airsoft and Paintball are different games with different objectives and playing styles. For this reason it may not ultimately be beneficial to have the what's better or worse conversation and instead just agree that they are different.
Similarities: Both games are inherently similar in that they are shooting games. In this way you might even be able to throw laser tag into this conversation, but few would probably argue that laser tag is on the same level as the other two. Shooting games lend themselves to certain military style tactics only because, yes, the military uses guns and has found out many wonderful ways to shoot others and avoid getting shot. The fact that these two elements (shooting and avoiding getting shot) are typically key in winning any of these 3 games, you are very likely to see some distinct similarities in how players behave and operate on the field.
DIS-similarities: Paintball was developed originally as a means by which to mark livestock on ranches. It was played originally and still today by folks that are more interested in short, fast paced games where dominance can easily be ascertained via clear marking of opponents (as opposed to the airsoft "honor system"). This is why much of the paintball culture is tournament based. To put it simply, it is more about wins, loses, and kills than scenarios and objectives. PAINTBALL IS NOT, HAS NOT, AND PROBABLY WILL NEVER BE MILITARY SIMULATION. Airsoft was a game that has its roots in simulating real or realish military or armed conflict situations. In airsoft the scenario and objectives take precedence over kill tallying and most games are larger in scale and longer in duration. Accomplishing objectives as a team and playing the part of military(ish) personnel is typically more important to the airsofter than the paintballer. In short, paintball tends to be more individualistic, airsoft more collectivistic. Paintball is concerned strictly with kills, deaths, and personal accomplishment in small scale "speed" games. Airsoft tends to value team cooperation, tactics and accomplishing objectives over any personal "scores."
So again, my opinion is that one is not inherently better or worse than the other... They are just different...
