There are a couple of potential things, the selector plate or its toggle, a loose internal linkage, or a sector gear chip

This is a problem i absolutely hate!...after working on 28 AEG's you get used to troubleshooting.....takes a littlewhile but its fixable......My suggestion is,,,,,Your Power Block might be sticking!!. its not always a selector switch problem,,,also your Selector plate might have a major roll in this.....with selector plates on M14's? you have to adjust them...there not fun to adjust. there is a small spring in the mechbox which helps the selector switch slide the plate without alot of force. chances are its your selector plate....it might have bent one of your prongs where its just sliding with the plate... Q: is this harmful   A: No its not harmful but in time it needs to be fixed...i personally recommend a new selector plate.
