I was sitting at home today wishing I had a weapon to shoot , cuz today was a great day for that sorta goofin' !

Well I didn't , so I continued my research and loadout building (on paper anywho)

I talked to a friend ... we'll call him secret squirrel ... Secret told me to train up... "It'll make you a better player on the field and it'll kill time til you can go shootin" Secret told Remember he advised... Trigger Pullers don't start by shooting and it's only part of the issue.. Build muscle memory , work on your gear , brush up on your tactics  and start setting up the gear you have.

Remembering that Secret has some serious real world training , figured it might pay off to listen.

Step one ... find my Cammies and 782 gear.. that's a start.
Step two ... find a good sidearm , it's cheaper than a rifle and SWMBO won't even notice that. (talked to Creeper...)
Step three... Work out field gear load out list ... More research , and site shopping
Step four ... Laid out a shot house diagram in paint to workout the kinks ... been awhile since I've moved like that... ugh... CORPSMAN !!!!!
Step five ... Set up a long and short range shooting range for later use...

Up next Crawl , Walk , Run ...

easy there turbo lol... enthusiasm has killed many a man.... when you get your hands on your first rifle, youll see... its not the beast it seems like. Its more like a woman. take care of her and she will do ya right. Treat her wrong..... also, any thoughts about trajectory and range almost go out the window. Youre left with the basics.. windage and elevatoin realy get weird when you throw some hop to th plastic. Just remember.... plannpng and execution are two different things..... but keep up the good work, youre on the right track

Don't be sorry do your thing, as you play you will adapt as you find your play style. As far as you load out goes that will probably change at least 3 times before you find what you really like. LOL

Cloak and DYNO made some good points.  You might change your mind about lots of things once you have played that first game!  My very first AIRSOFT game was held at night.  A moonless night at that. I showed up in my old OD BDU bottoms ( which I still wear!), a black t shirt, work boots, and a CLEAR crosman C11.  No extra 10 round mags, just a pocket full of bbs.  I plated like that for like, 6 games!

Then came my FULL METAL ECHO 1 MP5A4!!!! She was the coolest thing EVER!  I felt awesome even tho I only had the ONE highcap mag that the gun came with.  But hey, it held 200 rounds, not 10 and was WAY easier to load!! It's important to point out that at that time, we had no idea that there were forums we could join that would help us bypass some of the learning curve.  If 6 guys showed up to play, it was awesome!

My point is that you are doing yourself a favor by researching.  AND, you joined a forum.   Your "learning curve bypass" switch has been activated! From what you've told me, you've even watched lots of videos of AIRSOFT games on YouTube....good move!   I guess I wish I would have done what you're doing when I first started!

Your mind is hungry about airsoft I can tell. From one noob to another I say keep doing your homework and your off on the right path. My advice: Keep it KISS at this stage. All I would be worrying about right now equipment wise is getting a long gun of your choice and good eye/face protection. Like Mut said you will change your other gear several times after you start playing. It's almost like the first time you play you will see things that you need that are necessary. Then you will get those necessary items and play another game. Then you will start customizing those things to make them work better the next time you play. After that you will start specializing gear. After that you will almost continually move things around making them more comfortable. Loadouts seem to constantly be evolving. Right now I would just get a gun, play and see what happens. Thus the money pit begins!

well, my first game was at Lamar, and there was alot of guys there, for that field. i borrowed some of Jokers stuff, but other than that, i had NOTHING. all i have now is a M14 i got off ebay for cheap, a vest i traded a spare battery for, and teh one mag that came with the gun. no pouches for the vest, only a pocket full of bbs

keepin it simple  Afro

OK......Is there a therapist is the house....Huh?

Cuz I'm having issues .... We'll overlook the ones I came with , and focus on my related problem..

I have a co worker that knew I was dabbling in airsoft and researching gear and weps.... She so kindly offered to bring her son's M4 for me to "put my hands on". Well I picked up a hollow , all plastic, two part modeled ,screwed and glued together, little heart breaker...

The scope that was on the weapon was molded as part of the weapon and a screw was inside the sight picture. It weighed less that three pounds and rattled very badly.

IS THIS WHAT I"M LOOKING AT Huh??  Is this the way it is ? Or does this poor fella just have a lower end starter weapon?

Cuz as for everything I could find , told a very different story.

Now I'm not a complete Gomer and understand that the sport of airsoft has to make some differences between the AEG's and real items .. But to be honest , I was expecting atleast one metal part except for the screws and the inter barrel..

Disclaimer... Now if you have this weapon please understand ... I AM NOT bad mouthing your weapon in the least bit. I am merely trying to wrap my head around what I thought was a realistic airsoft AEG M4 ... and what might be reality

Is the doctor in???  Please help .... teating on the brink...

That gun is NOT WHAT WE PLAY WITH!!! worry not my plastic friend you have entered a world where all metal replicas are all the rage (if you can afford them) I personally use one that is mostly plastic by choice but it is not Walmart plastic it is a composite very hard very durable. I also have a gun with quit a bit of metal on it, our friends VADER and Creeper for instance have guns that are all metal and real wood. It all depends on what you want. I have friends at work that asked me to bring my guns for them to look at and I refused because they are so realistic I don't want trouble over a misunderstanding.

there are good plastic composite bodies out there, but they have the heft of metal. Personaly i shoot an ak with a plastic body for its ease of maintenance, unlike my heavy metal saws i dont need to oil them and worry about rust

I didn't mean to spark a debate metal vs plastic ... my issue was that this was a two piece molded plastic weapon and was cheaply constructed . it looked like was a toy that kids would've played with when I was a kid playing war in the woods behind the house.

I am a model builder , I mess with plastic ALL the time . This was cheap plastic with the Magizine modeled in and a small battery compartment in the buttstock ...
