This is a story that I picked up on the Net and thought I should share it.  Reason why is because OFFICERS can not tell the difference in fake and real.  Who can really?  Even if it has the orange tip doesn't mean its fake...  PLEASE be smart with Airsoft guns.  DONT BE A RATARD!

Man fatally shot by police had airsoft gun

WEST VALLEY CITY -- A man shot and killed by West Valley police on Monday was armed with an airsoft gun, but police say they feared for their lives.

The airsoft gun was a replica of the Taurus Millennium handgun and looked like the real thing, police say.

Three officers responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at 3319 S. Park Springs Dr. Officers were told there had been a verbal argument and 23-year-old Sean Krummi had damaged property inside the home then gone outside.

As the officers arrived, they encountered Krummi in the front yard. Officers say they tried to communicate with him but he was uncooperative, produced a handgun, and ignored officers' commands to drop it.

Two officers, who police say feared for their lives and the safety of neighbors, shot Krummi several times. The third officer was not in a position to fire his weapon.

Krummi was flown to the University of Utah Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The officers involved in the shooting remain on paid administrative leave, as is typical.

and as an addendum,
If you ever encounter a police officer while carrying your airsoft gun, in your car, case, or at a game, drop the gun, get away from it, dont waste time trying to explain that its not real, become as little of a threat as possible. Once the police have full control of the situation, then you can explain its not a real gun.

If you own a airsoft gun you should own a case period. Never get you AEGs out in public. Let this story be a warning to all you guys who like to run around your neighborhood shooting your airsoft guns, it can be very dangerous for you and your friends.

Buddy of mine had a similar incident but with no death. He was cleaning his bolt action kar 98k outside in his lawn, some kid comes up and says something and runs off. About a few moments later the kid comes back with his dad accusing him of shooting the kid between the eyes. Cops show up, confiscate the gun, put him in cuffs and haul him off. Not to mention no marks on the kid at all, after 4 months of constant bull crap with the court he gets the gun back and set on his way. I have had the cops called on us back when we first got into airsoft. The cop gets to my house and grabs his sidearm, going "we received a call about a kid with an assault rifle walking down the street." After we explained ourselves he said he felt like an idiot and should have known better, then he got in his PC and rolled off.  Tongue

To be perfectly honest I don't feel an ounce of pity for that Krummi guy. He acted like an idiot and pulled on a cop. If you hold something like a weapon and point it at a cop, you're going to get shot. As for normal people, the simple rule of common sense applies. Treat it like it's real, or otherwise you'll shoot your eye out or a friendly officer of the law will do it for you. Simple as that.
