Counter intelligence would be providing any kind of false or misleading information to the enemy in an effort to confuse, control, degrade, etc. their efforts. The key to providing counter intelligence is the manner in which it is delivered. The enemy has to believe the false intelligence is authentic, reliable, legit, etc.

Good counter intel is like poison, you mix in the nasty stuff with plenty of nice info to give it credence. If it quacks like a duck and waddles like a duck.....etc.. also it doesnt look suspicous. Its not a genersl broadcasting his plans to the world through the news, its more like an angry private venting on his blog or twitter. Make the enemy work a little bit for it and he will value it.
A good example doring ww2 in england, german spies were caught and turned against the axis as double agents. They relayed rumors of an army force in eastern britian called FUSAG the first us army group, commanded by patton. The location of the force in dover, just across from the pas de calais made many german generals believe the attack would happen in calais. So they tied up forces in the defence of calais from another area, normandy. The double agents recieved iron crosses for their work, broadcasting false info even as the allies pushed into france on d+3.
Counter intel is a very nasty business for very paranoid people, becaust you dont want to ever trust anyone.
I will be secretly providing intel to Corona this weekend!

CLARIFICATION, I DID NOT AUUHOR THE LAST PART OF MY LAST POST IT WAS MODPFIED BY SOMEONE WHOSE GUN IS SOON TO SUFFER A MAJOR BREAKDOWN See RABDAKK there is the example of NOT presenting the false intelligence in a believable manner. Cloak "the enemy" discovered the misinformation I planted so it was a major fail. Thus reinforcing my theory about the manner in which you introduce counter intelligence. Thanks for playing along Cloakster and we know you Ariana all the way!

Actualy this time ima be all the way on my butt doin the admin thing, youre on your own (not counterintel) Yet another example of counterintel during the fifties and sixties the cia ran a program in west germany which utilized a secret tunnel they dug across the border into east germany which they used to tap into soviet communications lines underground. Unfortunately at the first snow of winter the tunnel warmed the ground enough that an astute soviet intel officer noticed a line of melted snow coming from a building across the border and ending at a number of secure phone lines. At night the soviets were able to confirm by digging that there was a spy tunnel there. The upper leadership of east germany quietly transitioned to new secure phone lines while some regular offices still used them as normal to pass on confidential info, also soviet counterspies mixed in false info on everything from north korea to vietnam into the stream. To confirm that counterintel was working, a soviet spy in the navy would pass on reports which were full of the info the us had obtained from the project, containing enough traces of counterintel to let the soviets know it was working. Eventualy the tunnel was compromized and abandoned by the us, who did not know till after the wall fell that they were lapping up counterintel from a supposedly secure source.
